Purim and Antiquity’s Defense of Vashti

In contemporary times, Queen Vashti has made a deserved comeback.

Although sexism and sexual harassment still exist, many of us continue to fight for equality of all people.

In the ancient world, life was different. Equality for women was not on the agenda and most sacred texts reflected a male perspective.

In my commentary this week, I share a refreshing, rabbinic text from antiquity, which shockingly challenges the Book of Esther's response to Vashti.
